The Politics of Marketing

The Politics of Marketing was created as a space to attempt to answer a question that has plagued me for many many years—Why do organizations hate marketing and their marketing teams?

Hate is a strong word and a bit clickbaity, but I stand by the sentiment. Some companies hide it better than others, but in the end what I’ve noticed is that in many cases marketing is viewed as a nice-to-have rather than a critical component to organizational success.

This is something I’d like to change.

Changing organizational perception isn’t easy and it won’t happen overnight. And it definitely doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It requires effort, allies, and patience.

Together we’ll hear from experts in their fields on how they’ve navigated organizational culture, C-suite biases, and a marketing landscape that is evolving daily. We’ll showcase the benefits and value of marketing in today’s crowded marketplace.

And we’ll do it together.

Let the journey begin!

My curiosity continues to push me to understand why people and organizations do what they do, why they hold the beliefs and perceptions that they do, and how (or if) these perceptions can change.

With many years of leadership experience under my belt in a variety of industries at organizations both large and small, the question I continue to explore with experts is as relevant today as when I began my career—How can marketers gain respect and trust?
